Alan Curbishley...

...deserves a special mention now.

Here at nextenglandmanager.co.uk, we are proud West Ham fans, and whilst we are still getting over the departure of Harry Redknapp, we are thankful for everything Alan Pardew did for the club, especially the FA CUp final last season, one of the truly great finals!

Best of luck to Alan, we're sure he'll be back soon, and good luck to him!

Onto the next person into the hotseat at Upton Park, Sven has had his name thrown around since the rumours about the takeover started.  We think he is a great manager (despite what he didn't do with England!), but not sure that he will 'get' the mighty hammers...could be interesting, but we're rooting for a more traditional, hands on, kind of manager.

Other names in the frame include Terry Venables and Paul Jewell.  Leaving Wigan may be something that Mr Jewell does involuntarily in the not too distant future, but we're not sure if the sunny south is for him.  Venables would be a great manager, but does he want the pressure of club football again at the moment, when he has a job shaping England as a national team?

Our money is going on the favourite, local boy, and former Hammers hero, Alan Curbishley.  Having had a nice relaxing 6 months out of football, since leaving Charlton, Curbs has been linked with every job in Football.  He did wonders at Charlton, and if he is to come in at West Ham, we hope he can work with the new owner to take West Ham to the pinnacle of English football - look out Manchester United, Chelsea think they'll be bigger than you in 2014, but they never said anything about West Ham!!!!!
*****

Elsewhere, Dean Richards has commented that he has not been approached by the RFU regarding the England Rugby coach job, left vacant by Andy Robinsons departure last week.  The RFU will have a mandatory head scratching period, before they appoint the next coach, but the smart money has to be on the Harlequins head coach, Richards, who did great things as an English player, and has a fantastic coaching record with 4 (consecutive) titles, and 2 Heineken cups to his name.  He wants it, the fans would get behind him, as would the players.  Let's hope Rob Andrew can convince the board that this is the first step in taking England Rugby back where they belong, and getting the national game sorted out from the mess it is in at the moment!

What do you think?

Curb your enthusiasm...

Andy winner is...

Well, after an awful run of form, the English rugby team have finally won, just!!!

Andy Robinson was a brave choice from the RFU, and last week, after 7 (yes, seven!) straight defeats, the Rugby World Champions were somewhat unsettled on the field. The RFU held meetings, the press continued to mount speculation that Andy Robinson, England manager, would not hold the position for much longer.

November started badly, losing to New Zealand, in a good game, was a promising performance, but then a loss and a shocking performance against Argentina saw the team booed off the field at their home ground in Twickenham.

People were calling for Andy Robinson to be sacked, and following a narrow victory over South Africa, this pressure may have been temporarily relieved, however the speculation will still be that England need a new manager, if they are to attain the heights reached in 2003, when they beat Australia in the Rugby Union World Cup Final, with almost the last kick of the game from Jonny Wilkinson.

Andy Robinson may not be the England Manager for much longer, but who will be the next england manager? Now is a good time to get your bets on, as you will get better odds at the moment.....we're looking to do some research on a short list for the next england manager, so who do you think is in the frame? Will Rob Andrew be the next england manager, or will it be Dean Richards. With the trend these days to look abroad, will the england manager be from overseas? Who would you like us to track? Leave a comment....

Changing sports back to FOOTBALL......Steve McClaren has not had the greatest start to his career as England Manager, but the football has generally been good. A draw against the Dutch in Holland last week was a good game, and England could feel a little hard done by for the equaliser the Holland team scored shortly before the end, and a couple of bad results in the Euro qualifiers, England find themselves 3rd in the qualifying group going into the new year. Any thoughts on whether McClaren will be the England Manager this time next year, or have you any hot tips or gossip about what will happen...let us know by leaving a comment.....

and the winner is....

...Well, what can we say?! Madness prevails! Big phil has ruled himself out, big sam looks to have ruled himself out, with curbs leaving charlton at the end of the season, who knows what will happen today?

When Sven announced his intention to leave after taking England to Germany, the FA were quick to say that there would be a replacement announced before the world cup, with the world cup about 5 weeks ago, all of this speculation is no good for the men who will be involved in Germany. And Rooney of course!

The latest seems to be that Steve McClaren is favourite, especially as Sam Allardyce is reported to have admitted defeat, whichever way it goes, the FA have a board meeting tomorrow, and we're reportedly going to be introduced to the new boss tomorrow as well.....haven't we been here before?!

Let up know what you think, and where your money is, and who you want to be in charge!

The show ain't over, 'til the fat lady sings!

Well, well, well, we said the other day that it might be a good bet to think about other managers, and what they'd do next, and that Big Phil hadn't signed yet, and would probably not until after his job with Portugal ends at the end of July.

Now, adding drama to the situation, Alan Curbishley has announced that he will be leaving Charlton at the end of this season...is there something that we don't know, we think the speculation the other day could have been some good old fashioned propaganda. Either way, Charlton will be looking for a new manager at the end of the season, and everyone will now be talking about the England Managers role again, and the vacant position will be discussed again and again, maybe those people vehemently against a foreign man being the next england manager will be a little more positive if Curbs is still in the frame. Check all the odds out, betting could get interesting!

It's everywhere...

Everywhere we seem to look today, or listen, Luiz Felipe Scolari, has allegedly been offered the job.  After leading Brazil in the 2002 World Cup, he moved on to Portugal, where he has made a great impact, and will ,we're sure, be sorely missed if he is to come to England after the World Cup in Germany.

Many people will be a little miffed as to why the FA did not offer the post to an Englishman, but the chance to get one of World football's most experienced managers looked to be too much to pass by.

Should Phil take the job, then there will be a few other managers that could be looking for higher profile jobs, ad of course there is martin O'Neill who is still out of work.

We're going to be having a few bets now as to the next england manager (whenever that may be, plus it's not too late for this time, you'll get some good odds after the news today, Phil may still not come!), will be.  We might start to see some of the English guys looking for more experience, will Curbishley stay at Charlton, Allardyce at Bolton, Pardew at West Ham and so on, plus, it's widely expected that now Alan Shearer's playing days are behind him, that he will step up into a coaching role.  Let's not forget the last English manager to lift the World Cup, Sir Clive Woodward - different sport maybe, but now he's involved at Southampton, who knows?  He as made no secret about his desire to lift the football world cup with England as well, you read it here first (maybe), but we bet there are really good odds out there at the moment!

Finally for the moment, we will be behind Phil if he accepts the job, and think he will be a great manager, let's hope the media do not interfere too much.

every which way

Sad News

We were sad to hear the news of the death of John Lyall today. The former West Ham manager brought a great deal to the East London club, and latterly Ipswich.

Lyall was at Wet Ham for a number of years, winning 2 FA Cups in his time there, as well as guiding the club to their highest league finish in their history.

Come on West Ham, win the cup this season for John!

Our thoughts are with his family at this time.

It's been a while!

Sorry, thanks for your messages, we know it's been too long since we updated the blog, we'll try not to let it happen again!

So the well publicised shortlist got drawn up, whilst every man and his dog had a view on who was on it, and it doesn't really seem to have been narrowed down to the 4 potential candidates that was banded about a while ago!

Still widely accepted to be in the running, are Luiz Felipe Scolari (Phil), Martin O'Neill, Alan Curbishley, Steve McClaren and Sam Allardyce, whilst others haven't definately been ruled out, these guys are the favourites to take over.

Phil Scolari is an interesting choice, with many people shouting for an English man, Phil has proven success at an international level. Looking at what Portugal have acheived with him at the helm, and obviouasly what Brazil managed, this guy could be great for England, but there are doubts whether he could manage the team with the incredible media attention that comes with the job, having not previously managed in the country. He remains firmly focussed on a successful campaign in Germany with Portugal, could be a good outside bet.

Martin O'Neill is staying very quiet. Not currently with any club, it could be speculated that he is taking a rest before the big job!

Curbs and McClaren are still commenting regularly on how distracting the speculation is distracting, maybe stop talking to the press and concentrate on the job at hand....? Big Sam is still looking for players up at Bolton to compete in English football. We'll get the latest prices up here when we can!

Big Sam thinks he's all that!

Sorry it’s been a few days since we last updated!

As speculation mounts about where Sven is off to next, every top manager is being linked with the same job, and the FA are continuing their search for his replacement.

Every day now, there seems to be somewhat random people giving their views on who is right, or who is wrong for the top job in English Football (hey, we know we’re sort of doing that as well!). Over the last few days, Les Reed has stated that he thinks Alan Curbishley has proved he has the skills necessary, and has proved that he can be a serious contender for this job, all done with a relatively small and inexperienced team at Charlton. His name is rightly, in our view, being thrown about for this job with some of the biggest names in football. Curbs himself is a little worried about this, and the fact that he does not want all of this press speculation to distract him or his team from the job they have to do.

Elsewhere, Fabio Capello has finally admitted his lifelong dream is to manage the England team, and will be ending his club coaching days in the next 3 years to (he hopes) realise his dream, let’s just hope if he does get it, he doesn’t come across Arsenal too often!

Peter Taylor has reportedly met the FA this week, but has also indicated that he doesn’t think he’ll be offered it. Of his meeting, Taylor remarked something along the lines of yes, I have met them about the role, but Alan Curbishleys meeting was for the role. A subtle, but all telling indication….?

Finally for now, Guus Hiddink has said nothing new, and Sam Allardyce has come out with a very humble comment…’I don’t think there is another manager in this country who has achieved as much as I have.’ We leave with a question burning in our minds – if Sam is the best manager in the country, then how come James Blunt is such a success?

We've also found this offer, which is only about for a couple of days so get in there quick, it's a really good offer, with no catches, we've signed ourselves up, get your Maxim ordered, make sure you click on the banner below to get the offer!

someone farted

Ok, so it stinks right now! Aside from that, reports we've read today indicate that the departing England manager is potentially ready to take a £1m a year paycut to be in charge at Real Madrid.

Elsewhere, apart from someone on this train stinking like a sewer, Sir Bobby Robson has tipped Martin O'Neill as a good bet, and wants would like to see a home grown candidate chosen, despite the fact that O'Neill is not. Robson has also said that Alan Curbishley would be a viable option, but that Stuart Pearce lacks the experience, in his view, to take charge this time around, but would be good value in the future.

Alan Curbishley and Steve McClaren go head to head in the fa cup managerial cup tonight, will they be going head to head in the final furlong for the England managers seat?

Finally for the time being, Terry Butcher has tipped someone for the post, we can't remember who though, please get us ou of our misery and let us know who it is...

Hiddink knows where he'll be next year

Reports are floating around that Guus Hiddink has ruled himself out of the running for the England post. Hiddink, currently in charge at PSV Eindhoven and Australia, has reportedly said that he knows where he will be next year, indicating that he's not going to be in England. It does raise the question of whether the job is a full time one, or whether someone could combine it with club responsibilities as well, our opinion is that the new manager should be dedicated to England without compromise, but Steve McClaren manages to juggle both, albeit without full national responsibility. What do you think?

Elsewhere, Fabio Capello has said that he is happy at Juventus, and Luiz Felipe Scolari has said that he has not met with the FA.

With the names in the running, there is a real mixture of styles, if Sam Allardyce gets it, will England perform like Bolton do, should we be worrying about playing pretty football, or more about the results? Let us know what you think.

Finally for the time being, well done to Liverpool, and bad luck to Birmingham!

It's not just football...

Although this blog has been set up to discuss the next england manager, it isn't just football. With the recent rugby results, what do you think is going to happen at the helm of England Rugby, is Andy Robinson going to carry on, or do you think he will step down? Let us know what you think about that, oh and the cricket...come on England!

The race hots up

We've just read a report from yesterday that Luiz Felipe Scolari, the manager of Portugal (and formerly Brazil), has had some informal chats with the FA.

What do you think of this, a foreigner with a history at the top of the national game, what do you think he could bring to the England team?

Regular updates

OK, so as the speculation heats up, it's time for us to get our rears into gear, and update this blog with the gossip and speculation we see. You can contribute anything you hear by posting comments, or get in touch with us.

Finally for now, we have to say that this blog is maintained on a voluntary basis, and we ask that our users keep the tone appropriate.

If there are any posts you think should not be here, please let us know.

Next England Manager

OK, so it's been a while since Sven announced he is going to step down after the World Cup, but the FA are now looking for the Next England Manager.

Who will it be? Will it be an Englishman, or will the FA look to a foreigner to lead the English national football team next?

The idea of this blog is to keep everyone up to date with the gossip and the rumours about who it will be, so let us know your thoughts...
